
Six Top Finishes Highlight Leonard Hilton Invite

Meet record falls in first meet of 2020
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field team made their mark at their first indoor season home meet with six first-place finishes, 17 top-three finishes and 12 top-five finishes.

FIELD EVENTS
Houston opened up the meet with a first-place finish in the men's high jump by Brendon Rivera, clearing a height of 2.05m (6-8.75).
On the women's side, taking home the gold was Mikaila Martin after competing in the women's weight throw after posting a mark of 18.80m (61-8.25) on her sixth attempt.
Miles Marhofer won the weight throw for the second consecutive time this season, posting a mark of 20.55m (67-5.25). Marhofer also finished fourth-place in the men's shot put with a mark of 15.30m (50-2.50) and was followed by Johnny Howell in fifth-place with a throw of 14.75m (48-4.75).
Three Cougars took home top-10 finishes in the women's shot put as Nora Monie placed second with a throw of 15.57m (51-1.0), Hailey Pollard in third-place with a 13.21m (43-4.25) and Martin in sixth-place with a mark of 12.11m (39-8.75).
Destiny Lawrence finished second in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.74m (41-9.75).
Sarah Howe had a career day in the women's pole vault, clearing a collegiate-best 3.81m (12-6.0) to take home third-place. Olivia Winterkamp cleared 3.51m (11-6.25) to finish in fifth-place.
Samiyah Samuels took home fourth-place in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.94m (19-6.0)
Quinton Stringfellow posted a mark of 14.70m (48-2.75) in the men's triple jump to take home fourth-place, followed by Jadon Brome in fifth-place with a mark 14.00m (45-11.25). Brome also competed in the long jump posting a collegiate-best mark of 6.88m (22-07.00) in the men's long jump to take home seventh-place.
In the final event of the day, three Cougars finished among the top-five in the men's pole vault. Ben Percefull placed second by clearing 5.05m (16-6.75), followed by Tyler Stafford and Jacob Adair who each cleared 4.90m (16-0.75).
RUNNING EVENTS
Three cougars advanced to the final in the women's 60-meter dash, led by Naomi Taylor clocking a time of 7.61 to lead her heat in the preliminaries and finish second overall. Essance Sample matched her collegiate-best time of 7.52 to finish in second-place. Taylor took home third-place finishing at 7.55 and was followed by Ashley Seymour who clocked a time of 7.61 to place fourth.
Taylor also advanced to the final of the women's 60-meter hurdles, taking the top spot with a time of 8.23 along with Tonia Adeyemi with a time of 8.99. Taylor took home first-place with a time of 8.23 in the final.
Five cougars moved on to the men's 60-meter dash final. Terence Ware led the squad with a time of 6.81, and was joined by Travis Collins (6.82), Nicholas Alexander (6.82, Jordan Booker (6.82) and Jais Smith (6.93). Houston swept the 60-meter dash final taking the top three spots. Collins clocked the 12th-fastest time in collegiate ranks this season and secured a first-place finish at 6.70.
Dayo Akindele finished atop his heat in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.84 to advance to the finals. Akindele clinched first-place at 7.78, tying for the eighth-fastest time in the nation.
On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team made up of Sierra Leonard, Aliyah Taylor, Birexus Hawkins and Brianne Bethel finished in third-place with a time of 3:53.22.
The men's 4x400-meter relay squad made up of Fredrick Lewis, Jordan Booker, Joshua White and Tyrell Valentine finished in second-place with a time of 3:10.11. The squad broke the meet record in the event alongside first-place finisher, Texas.
Bethel led Houston in the women's 200-meter clocking a time of 23.99 to put her in third-place.
Four Cougars finished among the top-10 in the men's 200-meter as Alexander finished in second-place with a time of 21.49, followed by Lewis (21.78), Valentine (21.80) and Ware (21.90).
In the men's mile, five Cougars finished in the top-10. Devin Fahey led Houston by taking home second-place with a time of 4:24.36, followed by Brandon Seagreaves (4:24.76), Alan Elabanna (4:26.89), Jaime Vega (4:30.56) and Gabe Armijo (4:32.38).
In the men's 800-meter run, David Marquise Patrick clocked a 1:56.91 to finish in third-place.
Joshua White finished fifth in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.84 to lead Houston in the event.
Making her indoor debut, Darby Gauntt finished seventh in the women's mile with a time of 5:06.28 to lead the Cougars.
