Cougars hosts Southern Miss in morning matchup
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team will face-off with Southern Miss in its final non-conference home game of the 2019-20 season. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m. at the Fertitta Center.
GAME NOTES
COUGAR FASTBREAK
• Houston enters Thursday's game with a 5-6 overall record this season after most recently falling to then No.11/13 Texas A&M in College Station.
• Houston has two players averaging double-digits this season led by Dorian Branch with 12.4 points per game, she is followed by Tatyana Hill who is averaging 10.4 points per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is third in scoring on the team providing 9.9 points per game.
• Houston is averaging 65.8 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting from the field and a 26.2 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 69.8 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 41.3 percent and 31.4 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
• Blackshell-Fair leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 6.3 rebounds per contest.
• Houston is a tough team to beat on the glass, averaging 16.7 offensive boards per game which is 13th nationally and second in The American
• Houston has forced 202 turnovers by its opponents this season, with 15 or more forced turnovers in 10 of its 11 games. Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars are experts at protecting the rim, entering the game ranked 46th nationally in blocks (45) and 85th in Blocks Per Game (4.1).

• Southern Miss enters Thursday's contest with an 7-2 overall record. The Lady Eagles most recently defeated South Alabama and have won four of their last five.
.• USM is averaging 63.3 points per game on 39.7 percent shooting from the field and 27.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
• Southern Miss enters its 16th season under Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis and is led in scoring by Shonte Hailes who is averaging 16.1 points per game. Kelsey Jones leads the Lady Eagles on the boards with 5.7 rebounds per game, as Daishai Almond leads the squad with 32 assists this season.
