
Rehr Named The American Coach of the Year

Three Cougars garner All-Conference honors
HOUSTON – After leading the Cougars to their most conference wins since 2013, University of Houston Volleyball head coach David Rehr was named the 2019 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
Voted on by the league's coaches, the first-year Houston head coach was one of four Houston representatives to receive a postseason honor. Senior libero Katie Karbo, senior outside hitter Megan Duncan and freshman middle blocker Rachel Tullos were all tabbed to The American Second Team.
Rehr's Coach of the Year honor is just the fourth in program history and first since Bill Walton in 1994. The award also marks the third time in the last five seasons that Rehr has be named a conference Coach of the Year. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year from 2015-16.
With Karbo, Duncan and Tullos all receiving Second Team honors, this is the first time since 2015 that Houston has landed a player on the All-Conference list.

KARBO'S 2019 BREAKDOWN

- Broke the American Athletic Conference record for most digs in a career.
- Leads all Division I active players in career digs.
- One of the top liberos in the conference, ranking second with 342 digs and third with 4.96 digs per set.
- Garnered seven American Athletic Conference Weekly accolades, including six appearances on the Honor Roll and a Defensive Player of the Week.
- Surpassed the 25-dig mark against league opponents seven times, including three in the first four conference matches of the year.
DUNCAN'S 2019 BREAKDOWN

- Finished the regular season ninth in the conference with 3.22 kills per set against league opponents.
- One of six players in the league to record more than 200 kills during conference play.
- Ranked sixth in The American with 3.68 points per set average.
- Began league action with a Player of the Week accolade after leading the Cougars to a pair of wins and posting two double-doubles, averaging 4.30 kills and 2.30 digs per set.
- Led the Cougars in kills 10 times, having tallied a match-high on six occasions.
- Tied a career-high with 25 kills in the win over Memphis.
TULLOS' 2019 BREAKDOWN

- Led the league in nearly every blocking category including blocks per set (1.55), total blocks (107) and solo blocks (32). She finished second with 75 block assists.
- Earned a Conference Player of the Week accolade on Oct. 21, the only non-libero this season to win The American Defensive Player of the Week.
- Tallied three double-digit blocking performances against league opponents.
- Put together a performance of the ages against Cincinnati (Oct. 20), recording 17 blocks, which not only set a conference record for blocks in a five-set match but also was the most blocks in a single match by a Division I player this season.
- Recorded the first double-double of her in the win over Memphis (Nov. 15), having posted 11 kills and 12 blocks.
