Houston Concludes South Central Region Championship

Darby Gauntt earns All-Region honors
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Cross Country team concluded the 2019 NCAA South Central Region Championships on Friday morning as the men's team finished 11th overall and the women's team earned an eighth-place finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The women's team turned in its highest team finish since the 2009 season, accumulating a trio of top-30 finishes and totaling 267 points. Freshman runner Darby Guantt concludes her rookie season at Houston with All-Region honors after finishing 21st-overall at 21:38.9. She was trailed by seniors Jahnavi Schneider in 26th-place (21:49.8) and Meredith Sorensen in 28th (22:02.8) to round out the top-50 for Houston.
On the men's side, Devin Vallejo-Bannister finished one spot outside of earning All-Region honors in 26th-place at 31:11.5. He was trailed by GJ Reyna in 42nd-place with a time of 31:34.2. Jemal Wote clocked a time of 32:14.1 for 69th-place as Gabriel Armijo rounded out the top-100 for Houston with a 98th-place finish at 32:54.3.
Houston will now gear up for the Indoor Track & Field season which begins on Dec. 7 when Houston travels to College Station for the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational.
