Cougars defeat Huskies in 3-1 decision to remain spotless at home
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team remains spotless at home and in The American with a 3-2 win over the UConn Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis Complex.

The Cougars will continue action in The American when they meet up with Temple Sunday at 1 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars remained true to their aggressive style of play, notching an early goal inside the 11th minute of action. Mia Brascia fired a free kick into the middle of the box that would be knocked into the back of the net by Jazmin Grant for the opening goal of the night.
- With a 1-0 lead and outshooting the Huskies 13-6, Houston would head into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
- UConn answered back with a goal of its own inside the 54th minute, following a free kick.
- Minutes later, Reid Morrison would find herself in scoring position, following a corner kick from Natalie Anderson. The ball was deflected into the middle of the box, about 10 yards out and Morrison fired a shot in for the first goal of her career.
- With 10 minutes remaining and a 2-1 advantage, Madison Fulp positioned herself inside the box and knocked in her second goal of the season and the second of her career following a deflected shot from teammate Kaitlyn Wild.
- With time waning and trailing 3-1, UConn would score following a corner kick.
- The Cougars outshot UConn 26-15 overall, including 8-5 in SOG.
- Houston racked up two more corner kicks than UConn (7-5).
- Grant and Brascia led Houston in shots with three each.
- Â Morrison was the most efficient Cougar tonight with two shots, both on-target.
- Samantha Cude played every minute in goal for the Cougars, picking up three saves. Cude now has a 3-2-1 overall record.
- Houston is now 5-5-1 overall this season and 4-0-0 at home.
- The Cougars are 9-2-1 inside the Carl Lewis Complex under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra
- The Cougars are 5-0-1 when scoring at least two goals.
- Brascia is now tied for fifth all-time in single-season assists with five, three away from taking over the top spot.
- This is the first time Houston has defeated UConn in program history and the all-time series record is now 4-1-1.Â
