Cougars open play in The American with bouts against UConn and Temple
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team returns home where it will open its 2018 American Athletic Conference slate with weekend matchups against UConn and Temple.

The Cougars will continue action in The American with matches at East Carolina Sept. 27 and Cincinnati Sept. 30.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOWÂ
- Houston is fresh off its fourth overtime match in six outings and second overtime match in a row.
- The Cougars are averaging 94 minutes per game this season
- Last season, the Cougars posted a 3-6-0 record in the American Athletic Conference, the most wins in American play since joining the conference in 2013.
- Desiree Bowen leads the Cougars in scoring with eight points off of four goals.
- Amy Nguyen and Jazmin Grant have both held their own on the offensive end, each posting two goals and an assist this season.
- Mia Brascia has had a foot in four of the Cougars goals this season with a team-high four assists.
- Rachel Estopare and Samantha Cude are sharing time between the posts for Houston for 45Â saves this season, as well as three shutouts.Â
- Bowen's four goal are tied for the third most in The American.
- Olivia Lee's two game-winning goals are tied for the most in the conference heading into this weekend.
- Brascia leads The American in assists with four this season.
- As a team, Houston is third in the conference in shots with 153, tied for fourth in goals with 16, fifth in assists with 10, and tied for second in saves with 45.Â
- UConn is currently 2-7 this season, dropping its last two matches.
- Sophia Danko-Kulchycky and Erin Spillane lead the team in points with six each off of three goals each.
- Yamilee Eveillard and Elena Santos have two assists each for the Huskies this season to lead the team.
- Randi Palacios is the primary goalkeeper for UConn with 45 saves in 810 minutes.
- UConn is 0-4 on the road this season and is in its first season under Head Coach Margaret Rodriguez.
- UConn leads the all-time series with Houston 0-4-1, defeating the Cougars last season 3-2 in overtime.
- Temple is 4-5 overall this season and 2-3 on the road.
- Emma Wilkins leads the Owls in scoring this season with 10 points off of five goals
- Five different Owls have notched assists this season.
- Morgan Basileo is the primary goalkeeper for Temple with 50 saves in 664 minutes.
