Houston assistant coach and Sam Houston HS alum to be inducted Aug. 25
HOUSTON – Houston Cougar Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Tai Dillard will be inducted into the San Antonio ISD Athletic Hall of Fame, the organization announced recently.
“I'm very humbled by this recognition,” Dillard said. “I was completely surprised when SAISD called me informing me that I was being inducted. I have so many fond memories and great experiences with my teammates while at Sam Houston High School, so I definitely attribute a lot of my success to them and all the coaches I've been blessed to learn from.”
Dillard, a 1999 graduate of Sam Houston High School, was an All-State and All-City shooting guard that saw the Hurricanes reach the UIL State Championship tournament in 1998 and 1999. Dillard was a four-sport letterwinner, competing in basketball, cross country, track & field and volleyball before ultimately attending the University of Texas for basketball.
In four seasons at Texas from 1999-2003, Dillard was a two-time Big 12 All-Academic honoree and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times. On the court Dillard led the Longhorns to the NCAA Women's Final Four during her senior season.
From Texas, Dillard went on to play for her hometown WNBA team, the San Antonio Silver Stars, where she spent three seasons from 2003-05 before ending her playing career to become a coach. Dillard joined the Cougars under Head Coach Ronald Hughey in 2014 following coaching stints at UTSA, USC and Ole Miss.
The San Antonio ISD Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, inside the Alamo Convocation Center in San Antonio. Dillard will be inducted alongside Fennis Dembo, Delores (Delo) Dyer, Darryl Grant, Clifford Johnson, David Vela and Julius Whittier.
