HOUSTON â€" University of Houston junior midfielder Georgi Dolence is set to represent the Cougars at the American Athletic Conference Academic Symposium, April 6-7 on the campus of UCF in Orlando, Fl.
"I'm always extremely excited to attend these events," said Dolence. "You get to meet difference student-athletes from various sports and see how successful the conference is doing. I get to come back and implement things that I hear from other universities. We touch on topics that need to be addressed and I'm excited to bring that information back to Houston".
For the second time in her career, Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, Dolence, will travel to the symposium. Last year, the event was held in Philadelphia, Pa. and featured two days of panels centered on different aspects of student-athlete life. At this year's symposium discussions will be centered on the programming being conducted by each of The American's 13-member institutions regarding student-athlete well-being. The two-day event will be highlighted by presentations from 2017-18 American Academic Consortium Grant recipients who have conducted research on each of the 13 campuses. Dolence will sit on the student-athlete panel and shed light on mental health issues facing college athletes, specifically the mental health initiatives that The American and its member schools have taken on.
