HOUSTON – Fresh off a big season-opening win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball team returns to action when it takes on Rice at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside H&PE Arena in the second game of the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup in a game presented by Maintenance Supply Headquarters.
The Cougars enter Wednesday's game on the heels of a dominating 101-54 win over Alabama A&M in their season opener on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Armoni Brooks led all players with a career-high-tying 24 points, thanks to six 3-pointers, and added four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Senior guard Corey Davis Jr. tied his career high with 22 points and sank five 3-pointers, while senior forward Breaon Brady added 12 points after hitting all six shots from the field.
2018 American Athletic Conference Preseason Freshman of the Year Nate Hinton led all players with seven rebounds and totaled seven points with two assists and a pair of steals, while redshirt freshman forward Cedrick Alley Jr. finished with 11 points and five rebounds, including four offensive.
Wednesday's game will be the first time the two teams have met since Houston enjoyed a 59-48 win over the Owls inside Hofheinz Pavilion on Jan. 28, 2015, during Head Coach Kelvin Sampson's first season with the Cougars. Houston has won the last four meetings against Rice.
FERTITTA CENTER SNEAK PEEK
University of Houston students are invited to take a sneak peek of the $60-million Fertitta Center, beginning at 5 p.m., Wednesday.
Free food, soft drinks and popcorn are available for the first 1,000 students. Students are invited to try a half-court shot with the first 10 students making it receiving $100. Students must wear soft-soled shoes to try a half-court heave.
Following their tours, students are invited to board a FREE shuttle to the Cougars' 7 p.m., game against crosstown rival Rice inside H&PE Arena on the Texas Southern campus.

Season tickets begin at only $175 for 20 regular-season home games, while mini-plans start at only $40. Single-game tickets begin for as low as $10.
PARKING
To avoid lines for the H&PE Arena garage, fans are encouraged to use the FREE parking shuttle. Shuttle service begins at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, in Lot 12A near Gate 3 of the TDECU Stadium parking lot.
Shuttle return service begins immediately after the game and will run for one hour.
ABOUT RICE
• Rice brings a 2-1 record into Wednesday's game after a 73-59 home win over Alabama A&M on Monday night.
• Against Alabama A&M, junior guard Ako Adams led all players with 22 points, thanks to 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 shooting from the arc, and tied with freshman forward Drew Peterson for game-high honors with seven rebounds... Graduate forward Jack Williams added 13 points with six rebounds, while junior forward Robert Martin came off the bench to post 13 points with five rebounds and a pair of steals.
• This season, Martin leads the Owls with 15.7 points per game and ranks second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per contest... Adams stands second with 15.0 points per game and averages a team-best 2.7 assists per game, while Williams ranks third with 13.0 points per contest... Sophomore guard Josh Parrish averages 11.0 points per game to stand fourth among the Owls.
• Head Coach Scott Pera is in his second season at Rice and overall as a collegiate head coach… Pera has compiled an 9-25 record at Rice after his inaugural Owls team went 7-24 in 2017-18.
• Wednesday's game will be the first time that Pera has faced Houston or Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson during his career.
