Cougars Announce 2016 Competition Schedule

HOUSTON - Fourth-year head coach Chris Pfau and the Houston Cougars women's soccer program are excited to announce their competition schedule for the upcoming 2016 season.
The 2016 Houston soccer season opens at Carl Lewis Complex at 7p.m. Aug. 19, when the Cougars play host to Texas Southern at 7 p.m. The match against the Tigers will be one of 10 home dates throughout the 2016 season.
Houston closes out the remainder of August on the road with a pair of matches in the state of Texas. The Cougars face Incarnate World on Aug. 26 in San Antonio before heading north to San Marcos to take on Texas State on Aug. 28.
The Cougars return home on Sept. 4 to host their first of three first-time opponents, Samford before heading back on the road to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 9. The match against Samford will be one of four at home for Houston in the month of September when they will also host first-time opponent UC Riverside (Sept. 16), UTSA and first-time opponent New Mexico State on Sept. 13, which will also serve as Senior Day. The Cougars open conference play on the road against UCF (Sep. 29), one of four opponents who earned 2015 NCAA Tournament berths.
Houston opens the month of October on the road when it heads to Tampa (Oct. 2) to face USF, which lost in the 2015 NCAA Tournament first round. The Cougars will return home for a two game stretch first facing the Owls of Temple on Oct.6. The Cougars then play host to UConn, who made it to the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Tournament quarterfinal.
The Cougars make their last road trip of the regular season as they head to Cincinnati to face the defending American Athletic Conference champions Bearcats on Oct. 13 and from there the Cougars will travel to Greenville, N.C. to face the Pirates on Oct. 16.
Houston wraps up the 2016 regular season at home with matches against Tulsa (Oct. 20), Memphis (Oct. 23) and in-state rival SMU (Oct. 27).
Postseason play begins on Nov. 2 with the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championships. The semifinals will be held Nov. 4 with the conference championship match on Nov. 6.
