PALM COAST, Fla. -- The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in seventh place following the First Round of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday afternoon at Hammock Beach Resort and Golf Club.
Houston posted a team score of 319 with sophomore Yuka Kajiki leading the team with a 77 in the opening round on the 6,225-yard, par-72 Ocean Course with 18 holes each day through Tuesday.
No. 32 East Carolina and Memphis tied to hold the first-day lead with scores of 309. UCF, USF and No. 29 SMU were tied for third at 311, while Cincinnati stood in sixth at 316. No. 44 Tulane (321) and Tulsa (329) rounded out the field.
Kajiki, who was a 2015 All-American Athletic Conference selection, led the Cougars and was tied for 11th with a 77. Junior Emily Gilbreth and sophomore Megan Thothong were tied for 22nd at 80, while freshman Leonie Harm -- making her American Championships debut -- was tied for 27th at 82. Senior Raegan Bremer was tied for 37th at 85.
East Carolina's F. Gustafsson Spang was the only student-athlete to break par Sunday and held the first-day lead with a 71. Cincinnati's Valentina Herrera stood in second at 72, while USF's Nicole Autrique, SMU's Brigitte Dune and Emily Goldenstein of Memphis were tied for third at 74.
SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Monday's Second Round begins with a 7 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start. The Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Tulsa and Tulane, starting off No. 1.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Bremer will begin the Round at 7 a.m. (CDT) with Harm (7:10 a.m. CDT), Thothong (7:20 a.m. CDT), Gilbreth (7:30 a.m. CDT) and Kajiki (7:40 a.m. CDT) following.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
This marks the third consecutive season the Cougars will play in The American Championship and their second straight season competing as a team.
In 2015, the Cougars finished third with a team score of 878 , and Kajiki led the Cougars at 2-under-par 214 to tie for third.
UP NEXT
Following the Clemson Invitational, the Cougars enter the postseason when they play at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 17-19 at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla.
From there, the Cougars hope to compete in the NCAA Regionals, beginning May 5-7 at a site to be determined.
