HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Golf program welcomed Athena Singh, Alvilda Wiberg and Sandra Palin to the team after each signed financial aid agreements on National Signing Day, Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla announced Thursday.
Athena Singh, Alvilda Wiberg and Sandra Palin will compete as freshmen for the Cougars during the 2026-27 season with four years of eligibility each.

SANDRA PALIN
Palin joins the Cougars after an award-winning career in her native Helsinki, Finland.
"Sandra is very talented and has a unique skill set. She's a long hitter, and we have been really impressed watching her over the years. She is a great athlete, and we are excited to introduce her into our team culture, and we believe she will shine at Houston," Lasprilla said.
In 2025, She finished 19th at the Finnish Amateur Championship in early August and tied for fourth at the Finnish Stroke Play Championship with a score of 230, lowering her score with each round.
In early January, Palin posted a three-day score of 225 to capture the individual title at the Lauro Finnish Open hosted by FugeTeam.
In 2024, she won back-to-back tournaments on the Finnish Junior Tour and earned medalist honors at the Finnish Junior Match Play U18 Championship in early August.
She added another trophy to her case with her title at the Finnish Storke Play Championship in late June, thanks to a 70 in the Second Round.

ATHENA SINGH
Singh brings an impressive resumé at the junior and high school level to Houston. She was a two-time Kentucky PGA Junior Amateur Championship medalist in 2023 and 2022 and set a course record with a 62 in the Montgomery County Invitational at Irish Hills in Mt. Sterling, Ky.
Following her junior season at Rowan County High School, Singh was named Kentucky's Miss Golf by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association. That is the same award that Lasprilla received during her high school playing days at North Hardin High School.
"We are extremely excited for Athena to join our program. She has proven herself both at the state level and national level. It's been fun watching her grow as a player over the last few years on the national stage, and her future is very bright. I am excited about her demeanor and work ethic and think she will thrive at Houston," Lasprilla said.
Finished sixth with score of 215 at the Justin Thomas Junior Championship in early August after opening that tournament with scores of 70-71.
Singh earned medalist honors with a score of 212 at the Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur Championship, thanks to a 67 in the Second Round.
Singh posted three straight rounds of par or better at the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior Championship presented by Envova Insurance and won the individual championship with a 66 in the Final Round in mid-June.
As a junior in 2024, Singh lowered her score with each round and capped her stay with a Final Round 70 to win the title at the Circle K Junior Championship in late June.
She also captured the individual title at the Leachman Buick/GMC/Cadillac State Championship presented by UK HealthCare, winning the title by nine strokes. That came one year after finishing third at that postseason event.
ALVILDA WIBERG
Wiberg has been an award-winning star in her native Denmark and has competed on the Danish National Team since 2022. She represented Denmark at the 2024 and 2023 European Girls Team Championship and at the European Ladies Team Championship in France this year.
She posted a score of 213 with a 67 in the Final Round – thanks to six birdies on her back nine – to finish second at the European Club Trophy Championship in Slovakia in early October and earned seven Top-Five finishes in 2025.
"Alvilda brings lots of experience and has competed at the highest levels. She has represented her country on the Danish National Team for years and brings great leadership experience from those team events. She is a great person, and her game is strong in all areas. We are thrilled to have her join Houston," Lasprilla said.
In September 2025, Wiberg won the DGU Elite Tour Finale with a score of 206 and shot in the 60s for all three rounds, including a Second Round 68.
