PROVIDENCE -- Houston Cougar soccer freshman forward Desiree Bowen has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Jordan Brown earned Weekly Honor Roll after their performances in the team's match against Louisiana-Lafayette, the conference announced Monday.
Bowen scored Houston's second goal of Sunday's contest when she played a ball from junior defender Shayne Clewett and found herself one-on-one with the keeper. Bowen rolled her shot past the keeper for her third goal of the season. The Suwanee, Ga., native is tied for the team lead in goals, and has scored all three in just 90 minutes of action this season.
Bowen is Houston's second American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award winner for the 2015 season after freshman defender Hayley Hubbard earned Defender of the Week honors on Sept. 7. Bowen is the first Cougar Rookie of the Week award winner since Brown was honored by the conference on August 25, 2015.
Brown earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll after saving three shots against the Ragin Cajun's en route to her third consecutive shutout victory. The League City, Texas native stopped three shots in the contest and has collected four shutouts in her last five games. The award marks back-to-back weeks that a Cougar has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll after sophomore Vanessa Almaguer earned the distinction on Sept. 14.
