Volleyball Takes Two on Opening Day

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The University of Houston Volleyball picked up its first two wins of the season with a three-set sweep over Louisiana-Lafayette and a four-set comeback win over Utah State during day one of the Texas Tech Fall Invitational.
Freshman Brookah Palmer had an outstanding showing as she tallied 37 kills, hitting .280 and 18 digs.

HOUSTON 3, LOUISIANA 0
Houston Volleyball swept Louisiana-Lafayette (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) in the first match of the season.
With the three-set win, the Cougars improve to 5-1 over the Ragin' Cajuns in series history.
Palmer led the Cougars with 17 kills, hitting .353 in her first collegiate match. She also picked up seven digs for the Cougars. Junior Hunter Wise followed as she hit .500 with 10 kills.
Libero Olivia O'Dell had a 19-dig match, a career high for the senior.
Houston hit .307 compared to the Ragin' Cajuns .149 hitting percentage. The Cougars also led with 45 kills while ULL only put up 27 kills. In set two alone, Houston hit .444 as a team.
Houston Volleyball also held the lead for most of the match as the lead only changed seven times. The Ragin' Cajuns tied the game 23 times but the Cougars wouldn't give up the lead.

Houston Volleyball took a four-set win (25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 25-16) over Utah State for the second win of the 2015 season.
Palmer and Afferbaugh recorded the first double-doubles of the season. Palmer notched her first 20-kill match with 11 digs, hitting .237 while Afflerbaugh tallied 15 kills (.382) and 11 digs.
The Cougars opened the match with two huge comeback wins in the first two sets. Houston was down 18-16 in the first set and went on a 3-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the set. From there, the Cougars rallied and scored off six kills and a Utah State error to win 25-21. During set two, the Cougars were trailing again, 23-21, before taking a timeout. Houston came out strong and scored twice to make it 24-23. Three bad errors by the Aggies sealed up set two for the Cougar win.
Houston fell 25-19 in set three, but came back to dominate the fourth set. The Cougars picked up the win with a 25-16 win in set four.
NEXT SERVE
Houston returns for the final day of the Texas Tech Fall Invitational tomorrow morning. The Cougars face host Texas Tech at 11 a.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Houston hits the road again next weekend as they travel to Lafayette, La. for the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
