HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team is in the final weeks of its spring schedule and on tap this weekend is a 10:30 a.m. scrimmage with Lamar in the Athletics/Alumni Center.
The scrimmage is the final home spring event for the Cougars and it is free and open to the public.
The Cougars will wrap up their spring schedule next weekend with a trip to Dallas. On April 16, Houston is scheduled to compete against SMU, Ole Miss and Oklahoma.
Head coach Molly Alvey and her team have already competed in two scrimmages against Rice and Lee College on March 11, as well as participated in the Texas Pride Collegiate Invite on March 26.
The volleyball team wrapped up its first season under Alvey in November. She guided the Cougars to a 19-13 overall record and a 13-7 mark in Conference USA, a significant improvement over a 9-23 mark in 2009 and a 6-10 C-USA record the same season.
The Cougars finished third in league action and posted the most conference wins since 1999. Lucy Charuk and Chandace Tryon went on to earn All-Conference USA First-Team honors, while Charuk was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team and All-America Honorable Mention.
