HOUSTON - The No. 24 University of Houston women's basketball team looks to become only the second team in Conference USA history to go through the regular season unbeaten when it meets Tulane on Saturday. Tip off for the regular season finale is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Houston seniors Jasmine Johnson, Brittany Mason, Lesslee Mason, Megan Morton, Brittney Scott and Courtney Taylor will all be honored following the conclusion of the game. The team will also be presented with the 2011 C-USA regular-season championship trophy, which was clinched on Feb. 20 against UTEP.
The contest is part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team, who plays host to Rice at 5:00 p.m.
Houston (24-4, 15-0) extended its school-record winning streak to 15 games on Sunday with a come-from-behind victory over Rice. The Cougars trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half before putting together second-half runs of 17-5 and 21-7 to take their first lead with 1:50 remaining. Taylor led the way with 17 of her season-high 24 points coming in the final 20 minutes.
Houston features three of the top four scorers in the league as Scott (15.9 ppg), Taylor (15.6 ppg) and Porsche Landry (15.3 ppg) rank second, third and fourth, respectively. Taylor currently ranks fourth nationally in double-doubles (18) and leads C-USA and ranks eighth in the country in rebounds per game (11.4). Scott also places second in the league in 3-point percentage (40.0) and third in 3-pointers per game (2.6).
The top two offenses in C-USA will collide on Saturday, as Houston leads the league in scoring (74.8 ppg) and Tulane follows with 72.2 points per game. The Cougars also pace C-USA in scoring margin (+9.6), rebounding (44.3 rpg), defensive rebounds (29.0 rpg) and field goal percentage defense (36.9), while ranking second in blocked shots (4.9 bpg) and third in 3-point percentage (34.4), turnover margin (+2.7), steals (10.5 spg) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.5).
The Cougars, who are ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll, also debuted at No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll this week for the first time since Dec. 20, 2004.
