HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team completed its first practice of the 2009 season Wednesday morning at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Twenty-three players reported to practice including seven newcomers and one Oklahoma State transfer. Last season, Rathweg was named to the All-C-USA Second Team, while Derieg received the C-USA All-Freshman Team honor.
"We are implementing a lot of fitness into our play," head coach Susan Bush said. "The goal for our two-a-days is to prepare for the first game on Aug. 21."
The Cougars will begin their season against Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. on Sorrels Field before the home opener on Aug. 23 against Texas-San Antonio at 1 p.m.
