HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team begins its 2009 campaign at Houston Baptist Friday, Aug. 21 followed by the home opener Sunday, Aug. 23 against UTSA at Robertson Stadium.
"We're looking forward to putting all of our hard work in the preseason toward this weekend," head coach Susan Bush said. "If we concentrate on our goals individually and as a team, we hope for two good results."
Friday marks the third meeting between the two programs and the first on the Huskies home field, Sorrels Field, at 5 p.m. CDT. The Cougars look to bounce back from a 1-2 loss to HBU last season. The cross-town rival will not be an opponent to overlook as the team is ranked in the preseason to finish second in the Great West Conference West Division.
Following the season opener, the Cougars will defend their home turf as they face the UTSA Roadrunners Sunday at 1 p.m. CDT. The teams will square off for the fourth time in program history and UH will fight to tally another win. UTSA also received a preseason ranking when the program was voted to finish third in the Southland Conference.
Live stats for all UH home matches this season will be available through Gametracker on UHCougars.com. Go to the UH soccer page and click on `Schedule' and select the game to follow.
