HOUSTON -- The University of Houston women's soccer team will close out its spring schedule, hosting a five-team tournament on Saturday at Robertson Stadium and the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Competing at the tournament are in-state rivals Baylor, North Texas, Stephen F. Austin and Rice.
The Cougars will play a pair of games on their home field in Robertson Stadium, facing Baylor at 10 a.m. and North Texas at 2 p.m.
Forward Jessica Zavalza was the Cougars' top scoring threat last fall, racking 10 points off five goals - including three game-winners - in 17 games.
Defender Stephanie Derieg helped anchor a Houston back third that posted six shutouts and held opponents to a 1.39 GAA last season. Derieg also emerged as an offensive threat, recording a team-best three assists and scoring a goal to finish in a tie for second on the club with five points.
The Cougars also will be looking for a replacement for departing senior goalkeeper Shelby Scott, who leaves the program as the all-time leader in wins, shutouts and saves.
