Future Cougar Volleyball Player Roenicke Wins Gold in Australia

HOUSTON - Future University of Houston volleyball player Tara Roenicke won the gold medal at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) on Jan. 18.
Roenicke and her partner Summer Ross finished with a 5-0 record at the tournament including the gold medal match win over the No. 1 seed, Australia. At the start of the tournament Roenicke was chosen to carry the US flag during the opening ceremonies. The Festival hosted 1,500 athletes from 25 countries.

Roenicke, a native of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., will join the Houston volleyball team in the fall of 2009.
