HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team opens the 2007 season Friday night under the lights at Robertson Stadium, taking on No. 3 UCLA.
The match, scheduled for a 7 p.m. CDT kickoff, marks the debut of UH head coach Susan Bush and is the first meeting between the two programs.
Live stats for all UH home matches this season will be available through Gametracker on UHCougars.com. Go to the UH soccer page and click on `Schedule' and select the game to follow.
Just the third head coach in the program's nine-year history, Bush, a former standout at North Carolina, served as UH's top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the previous two seasons.
She enters her first season at the helm of the program with a roster that was depleted by graduation and defections. Only nine players remain off of last years' team that went 9-10, and they will be joined by a class of 12 newcomers to form the nucleus for a Cougar program that is nearly entering its second decade of existence.
The Bruins were picked to win the Pac-10 Conference title for the fourth-straight year. UCLA is listed in the top 3 of every pre-season poll, ranking as high as No. 1 by Top Drawer Soccer. The Bruins check in at No. 2 in Soccer Buzz, followed by a pair of No. 3 listings in NSCAA/adidas and Soccer Times.
Tickets will be available for just $2 as part of a combined `Pack The House' promotion occurring with UH's 5 p.m. volleyball match against Texas.
UCLA will play Texas at 7 p.m. Sunday in Robertson Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets for that game by calling 713-GO-COOGS or logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
