Houston Cougars (2-2, 1-1 C-USA) at Tulsa Golden Hurricane (2-3, 1-1 C-USA)
Saturday, October 1, 2005 * Skelly Stadium * Tulsa, Okla.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars took a 16-15 (.516) lead in the all-time series against Tulsa... Saturday's game was the first meeting between the Cougars and Tulsa on the gridiron since 1993... The win snapped a two-game losing skid against Tulsa dating back to the 1992 season.
** Saturday's game was the 31st meeting on the football field between Houston and Tulsa... The 31 meetings now ties as the second longest in UH history.
** Cougars improved to 111-117-6 (.487) all-time in the month of October.
** The Cougars improved to 24-39 (.381) all-time in Conference USA games.... The Cougars improved to 70-61-1 (.534) all-time against current C-USA teams.
** With Saturday's win, Houston snapped a nine-game losing streak on the road.... It was the Cougars' first road victory since taking a 34-14 win at Army on Nov. 15, 2003.
** With 477 yards of total offense, the Cougar offense recorded their 19th game with at least 400 yards of total offense under head coach Art Briles.
** With one touchdown pass, quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie with Jason McKinley (46 TD passes, 1999-00) for third place in UH career history... Up next in the UH records book is Andre Ware, who threw 75 touchdown passes from 1987-89.
** With 18 completions, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past the 500-completion milestone during his career.. Kolb, who finished the night with 511 career completions, became only the fifth UH signal-caller in school history to throw at least 500 completions.
** With 266 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past the 7,000-yard plateau during his career... Kolb, who finished the night with 7,011 career passing yards, became only the fifth player in UH history to reach that milestone.
** With eight receptions, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved out of a tie with Sherman Smith (1990-93) into sole possession of eighth place in UH career history with 148 career receptions... Up next in the UH records book is Elmo Wright, who caught 153 passes from 1968-70.
** With 137 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past the 2,000-yard mark during his career... Marshall, who finished the night with 2,108 career receiving yards, became only the sixth player in UH history to reach that milestone.
** With 137 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded his first 100-yard game of the 2005 season and the ninth of his career... His nine 100-yard receiving games pushed him into a tie for sixth place with Marcus Grant (1990-91) in UH career history.
** Junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall (137 receiving yards) and senior running back Ryan Gilbert (134 rushing yards) became the first players to record at least 100 yards rushing and receiving, respectively, in the same game since running back Harold Taylor (100 receiving yards) and running back Anthony Evans (156 rushing yards) accomplished the feat against East Carolina on Nov. 6, 2004.
** With his catch on the Cougars' opening possession, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a reception in his 28th consecutive game dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** With his 65-yard touchdown reception midway late in the second quarter, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie with Carl Hilton (1982-85), James Dixon (1987-88) and Freddie Gilbert (1991-92) for ninth place in UH career history with 14 touchdown catches... Up next in the UH records book is Marcus Grant, who recorded 15 touchdown receptions in 1989-91.
** Senior running back Ryan Gilbert's 58-yard touchdown run at the 2:59 mark of the second quarter was the longest run of his career... It was his second consecutive game to set a new career long after breaking off a 57-yard run at Conference USA rival UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.
** With 134 rushing yards, senior running back Ryan Gilbert recorded the second 100-yard rushing game of his career and the 2005 season... His rushing total set a new personal career high, topping his previous high of 127 yards set against Sam Houston State on Sept 10, 2005.
** With two rushing touchdowns, senior running back Ryan Gilbert tied his career single-game high, previously set against Sam Houston State on Sept. 10, 2005... It was the second multi-touchdown game of his career and the 2005 season.
** Junior running back Jackie Battle's 2-yard touchdown run at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter was his first rushing touchdown of the 2005 season.
** With three catches for 58 yards, senior tight end Blade Bassler set new personal single-game highs in both categories... His reception total topped his previous high of two catches set at UTEP (Sept. 16, 2005) and at TCU (Sept. 23, 2004)... His receiving yardage total topped his previous high of 35 yards set against East Carolina on Nov. 6, 2004.

** Defensive tackle Marquay Love's blocked PAT in the fourth quarter was the fourth blocked kick of his career.
** Defensive tackle Marquay Love's blocked punt around the 13:45 mark of the second quarter was his second blocked kick of the night... It also was the first blocked punt by the Cougars since Chad Davis blocked a kick against USF on Nov. 3, 2001.
** Linebacker Scott Lee's fumble recovery around the 11:37 mark of the second quarter was the first fumble recovery of his career.
** Sophomore kicker T.J. Lawrence's 42-yard field goal at the 7:06 mark of the first quarter was his third consecutive field goal and his third consecutive field goal of at least 42 yards to open the 2005 season... His miss of a 49-yard field goal at the 6:57 mark of the fourth quarter snapped his streak.
** Freshman kicker Ben Bell's miss of a 31-yard field goal around the 13-minute mark of the second quarter was the first miss of a kick (PAT or FG) by a Cougar kicker in 2005... It was the first miss in 14 consecutive field goals or PATs.
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 40th consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 28th consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** With Nick Graham's blocked punt around the 2-minute mark of the first quarter, Tulsa was the second straight opponent to block a punt against the Cougars.. UTEP's Bryant Tisdale blocked a punt against UH on Sept 16, 2005, in El Paso, Texas.
