University of Houston head women's soccer coach Bill Solberg today announced the Cougars have added midfielder/defender Kristen Cooper to the 2004 Cougar squad.
Cooper comes to Houston via Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, where she saw action against Central Oklahoma and fellow Lone Star Conference member West Texas A&M as a freshman in 2003.
"Kristen will give us some more experience out of the back," said Solberg, who enters his fifth year as head of the program this coming year. "She will fit right in to a flat back four as a central defender. She has poise, composure and good soccer intelligence.
"She comes from the Challege Soccer Club and really has a great work ethic," continued Solberg. "We are excited for her to join our team and have an immediate impact."
While with the Challenge, Cooper and her teammates won both the sate and regional championships in 2003. She was a First Team All-District selection in Cy-Fair each of her four years at Langham Creek High School, and was named MVP of her squad in both 2001 and 2003. In addition, Cooper was a team captain her junior and seniors years, and was named to the academic honor roll each of her four years.
The Cougars begin their seventh season of intercollegiate competition when they kick off the 2004 regular season against cross-town rival Rice on August 27 at Robertson Stadium.
