HOUSTON - University of Houston women's soccer head coach Bill Solberg recently announced the signing of high school senior Sarah Fisher (Katy, TX-Cypress Springs HS) to a National Letter of Intent. Fisher will join the Cougars for the 2003 season and will add depth to the Houston squad as a defender and midfielder.
"Sarah will make an immediate impact upon arrival to the program, most likely in a flank position - either in the midfield or back line," said Houston assistant coach Joe Kirt . "She has an outstanding work ethic on and off the field and is naturally a competitive person."
A native of Katy, Fisher earned all-conference, all-district and all-state honors at Cypress Springs High School, scoring 18 goals and notching 15 assists in 22 games. She currently plays club soccer with the Challenge Soccer Club under head coach Mark Hamilton.
"Primarily playing in the back with her club team, she is an intelligent and physical defender but also has the ability to keep possession after winning the ball defensively, which is a good fit in our style of play," Kirt said. "She has a knack for joining the attack from either a midfield or back line position -- and we are looking for that type of play to continue and improve throughout her career."
The daughter of Daniel and Lori Fisher, she also graduated at the top of her class and was the 2003 Cy Springs valedictorian. Fisher also excelled in track and cross country and participated in various community service and leadership activities during her tenure at Cy Springs.
Fisher, who was also recruited by West Point and Bucknell, plans to major in engineering at UH this fall.
