Golf Ready to Go at Club Glove Intercollegiate

SOMIS, Calif. - After a two-week break, the University of Houston golf team returns to action Monday when it competes during the first day of the Club Glove Intercollegiate in Somis, Calif.
The tournament begins with 18 holes on Monday morning and concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday on the 6,883-yard, par-72 course at Saticoy Country Club. UH joins a 12-team field, which includes Arizona State, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas A&M, Tulsa, UC Irvine and host Pepperdine.
The Cougars enter the tournament after tying for seventh at the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Lawrence, Kan. At that event, freshman Ricky Romano, competing in only his second collegiate event, fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to move into a tie for 11th place.
Romano, who ended the Kansas tournament with back-to-back sub-par rounds, joined Denton Walker in the 11th-place tie.
This season, Romano has emerged as the Cougars' most consistent performer with a 72.2 scoring average, nearly a stroke better than his closest competitor on the team.
Walker is second on the team with a 73.0 average, while junior transfer Jordan Hasbrouck owns the Cougars best round of the fall season after shooting a 68 in the second round at the Mean Green Classic on Sept. 15, in Flower Mound, Texas.
Sophomore Zach Mowbray and junior Daniel Angenscheidt also are slated to compete at the tournament after qualifying in practice earlier this week.
