Houston Soccer Set to Kick Off Home Stand

The University of Houston women's soccer team, which boasts a Top 50 recruiting class, looks to extend its current home win streak to six straight games dating back to last season as they open a four-game home stand on Friday night, Sept. 13, against visiting North Texas at 7:00 p.m. at Robertson Stadium.
Houston looks to halt a current two-game skid against the Mean Green, who lead the all-time series between the two schools, 3-0. North Texas won a 5-4 shootout battle over the Cougars in the two schools' last meeting on Sept. 8, 2000, at Robertson Stadium. UNT has shut down the Cougar offense in two of the three games, both at Denton -- the on Sept. 3, 1999 (4-0), and Sept. 9 of last season (3-0).
Following the game against UNT, the Cougars host UL Lafayette for the second time in two years on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Ragin' Cajuns handed Houston a 1-0 defeat last Oct. 9 in the two school's first-ever match-up.
The Cougars are 1-0-0 at home so far this season and carry a five-game home winning streak into Friday's match against UNT. Houston won its final four home contests of 2001, including victories over Memphis, Southwest Texas, Southern Miss and Tulane. With a win over UNT, the Cougars will the school record for the most consecutive wins at Robertson Stadium in a single season, matching the inaugural 1998 squad which won six in a row from Sept. 25 - Nov. 1. The Cougars defeated cross-town rival Rice by a final of 2-1 in the 2002 season opener on Sept. 1.
The Cougars remain on home turf and open league play next weekend against Conference USA foe Charlotte on Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m., followed by an afternoon contest against Louisville on Sept. 22 at noon.
Houston's overall season record currently rests at 1-2-0.
