Volleyball Team Sweeps Southern Miss 3-0

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston women1s volleyball team remained undefeated in Conference USA action after coasting to a three-games-to-none sweep of league rival Southern Miss Friday night in Hofheinz Pavilion. With the 15-10, 15-2, 15-8 victory the Cougars improved to 2-0 in C-USA play and 8-3 overall after winning their fourth match in a row.
Houston was led in the match by the senior hitting tandem of Jennifer Wittenburg and Bobbi Stewart. Wittenburg spiked 14 kills while playing in only two games. Stewart added 11 kills with a pair of service aces.
The Cougars held USM to an .086 hitting overall. The Lady Eagles were paced by Lindsay Westendorf's eight kills, 10 defensive digs and three blocks. Southern Miss fell to 5-7 on the year and 0-2 in conference.
UH will be back home again in Hofheinz Pavilion for a C-USA contest against National Division rival Tulane on Sunday, September 24. First serve will be at 2:00 p.m..
