#29 Cougars make first appearance as team in program history at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Friday
CARLSBAD, Calif. – The University of Houston Women's Golf program opens play at the NCAA Championships when it tees off Friday morning on the North Course at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The 29th-ranked Cougars earned their first trip as a team to the NCAA Championships after finishing second at the NCAA Simpsonville Regional at Louisville Golf Club on May 11-13. Houston posted a team-score of 11-under 853, including a school-record-low 275 in NCAA Regional play in the Second Round, to punch their ticket to the nation's premier collegiate event.
FORMAT
All schools will play 18 holes each day on the 6,373-yard, par- 72 course beginning at 8:30 a.m. (PDT), Friday and continuing through Sunday. Following the first three rounds, the Top-15 teams and Top-Nine individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the Final Round of stroke play.
The top individual following the Final Round of stroke play will be crowned the NCAA individual national champion.
The Top-Eight teams following the Final Round of stroke play advance to match play. The Match Play Quarterfinals and Semifinals will be held Tuesday, May 26 with the National Championship match beginning in the afternoon on Wednesday, May 27.

Fans can watch coverage of the NCAA Championships first three rounds of stroke play as well as pre-linear during the final round of stroke play and the Quarterfinal round of match play prior to Golf Channel's televised broadcasts.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla, the Cougars will be represented by Svedenskiöld, Kim, Saint Germain, senior Alexa Saldaña and sophomore Emilia Väistö. Freshman Sadie Adams will make her postseason debut as a substitute as needed.
This season, Svedenskiöld leads the Cougars with a 72.00 scoring average. The Helsingborg, Sweden, native paces the team with five Top-10 finishes and has finished among the Top-20 in seven of her last eight events.
Saint Germain stands second on the squad with a 72.20 average and is tied for the team lead with junior Maelynn Kim with 18 rounds of par or lower. The Prague native captured the individual title at the Jim West Challenge in October, thanks to three straight rounds in the 60s, and was the only Cougar to shoot par or better in all three rounds at the NCAA Simpsonville Regional.
Kim is third on the squad with a 72.44 average. The Katy, Texas, native was the only Cougar to shoot par or better in all three rounds at the Big 12 Championship and has earned three Top-Five individual finishes to tie with Saint Germain for the team lead.

The Cougars will compete in a 30-team field with all 30 programs among the nation's Top 50.

For Monday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Northwestern and Missouri with a split-tee start.
Väistö begins the day off No. 10 at 9:25 a.m. (CDT) with Saldaña (9:36 a.m. CDT), Saint Germain (9:47 a.m. CDT), Kim (9:58 a.m. CDT) and Svedenskiöld (10:09 a.m. CDT) following.
The Cougars also will play with Northwestern and Missouri for the Second Round beginning at 2:45 p.m. (CDT) Saturday.

Current senior Moa Svedenskiöld qualified as an individual from the NCAA Columbus Regional a year ago and will make her second appearance. All-American Karen Fredgaard tied for 28th as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., and became the first Cougar to compete in all four rounds of stroke play.
All-American Leonie Harm was the first Cougar to compete in multiple NCAA Championships, qualifying for the 2018 and 2016 events.
