Cougars celebrate four seniors in final home match of 2026
HOUSTON — After the cancellation of its match against #31 Oklahoma State on Friday, the #41 University of Houston Tennis team hosts Kansas State for the final home match of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Facility.
The Cowgirls (8-9, 5-5 Big 12) were forced to forfeit after not having enough available players due to injury which gave the Cougars (15-5, 5-5 Big 12) the win.
Due to forecasted inclement weather and an effort to complete the match, Houston will honor its four seniors, Sophie Schouten, Chems Doha Zeghlouli, Elizaveta Morozova and Gabriela Cortes for their commitment to the program at 1 p.m. Monday in the Great Hall of the Athletics/Alumni Center.

The Cougars split their contests falling to #21 UCF, 4-1, on Saturday and sweeping Missouri State, 4-0 on Sunday.

Schouten was the one bright spot against the Knights claiming straight sets against Lauren Seye on court six for a career-high 14 singles wins on the season.

The Cougars dominated Missouri State, 4-0. Doubles pairs of Schouten and Zeghlouli, and juniors Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa claimed the doubles point with identical 6-1 scores.

Houston is in its second season under the direction of Head Coach Katarina Adamovic and returns five starters from a season ago.

The Cougars got off to their best start since 1990 at 11-0, swept its first eight opponents for the first time in program history and were ranked as high as #29 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team poll.
