Senior Gaby Cortes makes season debut and clinches sweep for the Cougars

HOUSTON — The #43 University of Houston Tennis team bounced back with a 4-0 sweep of Missouri State on Sunday at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Facility.

The Cougars (14-4, 4-5 Big 12) cruised through doubles as doubles pairs Sophie Schoutena and Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina each grabbed a 6-1 win on courts one and three respectively.

The three completed singles victories dropped a combined three games as junior Petja Drame defeated Elise Jackson, 6-0, 6-1, junior Elizaveta Morozova took care of Lucy Lathan, 6-0, 6-1, and in her season debut, senior Gabriela Cortes clinched the match over Laticia Caldararo, 6-1, 6-0.

Houston held a one-set lead on all remaining singles courts before the match was finished.

Houston continues its homestand at 1 p.m. Friday as it welcomes #25 Oklahoma State on Senior Day. The Cougars will celebrate Sophie Schouten, Chems Doha Zeghlouli, Gabriela Cortes and Elizaveta Morozova following the match.
