Hudson Weibel Leads Men’s Golf at Big 12 Championship

Senior tied for third at 4-under 136 after firing 65 in Monday’s Second Round
HUTCHINSON, Kan. – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Hudson Weibel fired a 65 in the Second Round of the Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate and was tied for third at 4-under 136 at Prairie Dunes Country Club on Monday evening.
After opening the three-day, 72-hole postseason event with a 71 in the morning round, Weibel returned in the afternoon to sink six birdies with only one bogey on the 6,996-yard, par-70 course.
Starting off No. 1, Weibel quickly moved into red numbers with a birdie on the par-3 10th hole and added another birdie three holes later.
The Dallas native rallied from his lone bogey in the Second Round at No. 15 to drain back-to-back birdies at Nos. 17-18 to close his first nine.
After making par on the first six holes of his second nine, Weibel ended his day with birdies on two of the final three holes to join Gaven Lane (Oklahoma State) and Tim Wiedemeyer (Texas Tech) in a tie for third.
With his performance, Weibel posted the Cougars' lowest round at a Conference Championships event since Roman Robledo posted a 65 in the Second Round of the 2013 Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark., on April 22, 2013.
Oklahoma State's Preston Stout stood atop the individual leaderboard at 8-under 132 with BYU's Kihei Akina in second at 134.
As a team, the Cougars finish the first day with a score of 582 to stand in 15th.
Junior Chi Chun Chen and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen, who was making his postseason debut with the Cougars – were tied for 58th at 148. Junior Grant Doggett was tied for 70th at 152 while freshman Jayk Altic, who also made his inaugural appearance at the Big 12 Championship, was tied for 75th at 154.
#5 Oklahoma State held the first-day lead at 546 to finish seven strokes ahead of #20 Arizona. #6 Texas Tech (559), #36 TCU (561), #23 BYU (562), UCF (567), Baylor (569), Iowa State (575), #38 Kansas (575) and #9 Arizona State (576) completed the Top 10.

The tournament continues with the Third Round on Tuesday and the Final Round teeing off Wednesday morning.
