PREVIEW: Cougars Face Lamar Before Second Big 12 Weekend Against Kansas

Houston meets midweek Southland Conference foe before taking on Jayhawks in week two of Big 12 Conference play
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team is set to play the first four of a six-game homestand this week when it takes on Lamar in a midweek battle before hosting Kansas in week two of Big 12 Conference play this weekend.

The Cougars will face the Cardinals at 6 p.m., Tuesday followed by a conference series against the Jayhawks on March 13-15 with game one set to start at 6 p.m., Friday. The teams then meet again at 3 p.m., Saturday, before a noon, Sunday, finale.

The following items are allowed inside all ticketed UH Athletics events:
Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the doors by arena personnel. Items such as backpacks, purses and diaper bags are not permitted, and fans are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags to Houston Athletics facilities.

- The Cougars owns a 15-5 all-time record against Lamar with a 10-3 record at Cougar Softball Stadium, winning each of the last four meetings.
- Houston will face Kansas in a conference weekend series for the second time as Big 12 foes. The Cougars were swept in the head-to-head's first conference series in 2024 with the Jayhawks having won the last five meetings.
- Sophomore Maddie Hartley has been on a tear through 25 games this season, leading Houston in eight major offensive categories highlighted by batting average (.403), hits (27), doubles (7), home runs (11), RBIs (26), slugging (1.000), on-base percentage (.540) and walks (16).
- With 11 homers on the season, Hartley sits on the cusp of breaking into the top 10 single-season home run leaders list, just two home runs shy from a four-way tie with Brooke Lathan (2011), Elaina Nordstrom (2008), Sarah Queen (2021) and Becca Schulte (2021) with 13 in their respective seasons.

- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches
- 1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
- A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap (These small clutches remain subject to search)
