PREVIEW: Cougars Set to Battle Lamar, Host #25 UCF

Houston faces Cardinals for second time this season; host 25th-ranked Knights in fourth Big 12 weekend
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team is set to face Lamar in midweek action before hosting its fourth Big 12 Conference weekend against #25 UCF.

The Cougars will face the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, in Beaumont followed by a home conference series against the Knights on March 27-29 with game one set to start at 6 p.m., Friday. The teams then meet again at 3 p.m., Saturday, before a noon, Sunday, finale.

- The Cougars enter the week ranked 62nd in the latest RPI, facing off against Lamar (145th) and UCF (26th) The Cougars have faced four opponents ranked in the RPI top 25 a total of eight times this season, including a road victory over McNeese (Feb. 21) at 23rd. Houston also has three wins against teams inside the top 50 in McNeese, Michigan and Kansas.
- Houston leads the all-time series against Lamar 16-5, winning each of the last five meetings including a 5-0 shutout victory at home this season on March 10.
- The Cougars are 23-27 all-time against the Knights dating back to the American Athletic Conference, going 1-5 through two seasons as Big 12 foes.
- Houston recently surpassed 50 home runs this season (currently 52) to become the fastest team in program history to achieve that feat, doing so in just 32 games. The Cougars beat the program record in 11 less games (2011 – 43 games).
- The Cougars are currently ranked 12th nationally with 52 homers this season, ranking tied for third in the Big 12 only behind Texas Tech (63) and Kansas (57).
- Sophomore Maddie Hartley and junior Makenna Mitchell currently sit atop the Big 12 leaderboards in home runs with 14 each, good for 12th nationally.
- Redshirt-senior Paris Lehman and senior Mandy Esman recently celebrated career milestones last weekend against Iowa State, reaching their 100th career strikeout and 100th career hit, respectively.
- Sophomore Nevaeh Brown currently ranked fifth in the Big 12 in strikeouts with 68 on the season.Â
- Sophomore Madox Mitchael has had a dominant stretch at the plate in recent weeks, tallying 16 hits in her last 10 games as well as her four multi-hit outing sin the last five games.
- Sophomore Isabel Cintron ranks second in the Big 12 in runners caught stealing with six on the season, only four behind UCF's Beth Damon (10).

- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches
- 1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
- A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap (These small clutches remain subject to search)
