PREVIEW: #40 Tennis Takes on #48 Kansas and Iowa State

Cougars set to travel to face Jayhawks on Friday and Cyclones on Sunday
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The #40 University of Houston Tennis team looks ahead to its second set of conference road tests as it travels to face Kansas on Friday and Iowa State on Sunday.
The Cougars (12-3, 3-3 Big 12) face the Jayhawks (7-7, 3-2 Big 12) at 5 p.m. Friday from the Jayhawk Tennis Center before squaring off against the Cyclones (2-10, 0-5 Big 12) at the Iowa State Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars split its two matches over the weekend. After falling to #30 Texas Tech on Friday 4-3, Houston ended its three-match losing skid by sweeping #51 Colorado, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Houston dropped its opening match of the weekend against Texas Tech in a comeback bid that fell short. After being swept in the doubles point and dropping the first two singles courts, wins by juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, along with senior Sophie Schouten quickly leveled the score at three.
In a winner take all matchup on court five, junior Petja Drame fell short losing in a second set tiebreaker.
The Cougars got back in the win column with a 4-0 sweep of the Buffaloes on Sunday. Houston started out hot claiming the doubles point as pairs Sepa and Krokhotina and #89 Schouten and Zeghlouli won their matches 7-5.
The dominance would continue as the Cougars won the next three singles points as Krokhotina, Schouten, and junior Elizaveta Morozova completed the sweep.
ABOUT HOUSTON
Houston is in its second season under the direction of Head Coach Katarina Adamovic and returns five starters from a season ago.
The Cougars got off to their best start since 1990 at 11-0, swept its first eight opponents for the first time in program history and were ranked as high as #29 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team poll.
Houston is ranked #40 in this week's ITA team poll while coming in at #38 in the UTR team rankings.
Schouten leads the way for the Cougars with a perfect 12-0 singles record followed by 10 wins from Krokhotina.
Doubles pairs Drame and Morozova and Schouten and Zeghlouli each have nine wins on the season.
Houston is looking for its first Big 12 Conference road win in program history. It's three wins on the young conference season is more than its first two years in the league combined.
ABOUT KANSAS
Kansas stands at an even .500 through 14 games this season with a 3-2 record in Big 12 play including wins over Colorado, TCU, and Iowa State. The Jayhawks fell in their match 4-1 against #44 Baylor in Waco, Texas.
The Jayhawks boast the 53rd ranked singles player as Kyoka Kubo stands with a 18-8 record.
Kansas leads the all-time series 7-2. The Jayhawks won the previous seven meetings with the last meeting being a 4-1 Jayhawk win in Houston on March 14, 2025.
ABOUT IOWA STATE
Iowa State holds a 2-10 record and are winless in conference play on the season.
Alica Dale leads the team with a 5-4 record and 1-1 in conference play.
The Cyclones lead the all-time series at 2-1, winning both of the conference matches. Houston's lone win was a 4-3 win on March 12, 2012, in Houston.
