Houston held to three hits; Jayhawks tally seven homers and 15 hits to level series

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team dropped game two of its weekend series against Kansas, 18-1, at Cougar Softball Stadium on Saturday.

The Cougars (17-11, 1-4 Big 12) were held to three hits on the day as the Jayhawks (19-8, 1-1 Big 12) scored six, 10 and two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

NOTABLES

Sophomore Ariel Redmond's lone single on the day extended her hitting streak to four games, tallying five total hits in that stretch.
Senior Mandy Esman also extended her hitting streak to three games with a single on the day, sparking her second hitting streak of three or more games this season.
Junior Bethany Aguilar notched her first RBI of the season, providing the Cougars' lone run of the day in the bottom of the first.

KEY INNINGS
1^st | With runners on first and second following a walk and single from senior Mandy Esman, freshman Ronnie Esparza supplied a sac bunt to advance runners to scoring position at second and third. Sitting on a 2-2 count, junior Bethany Aguilar provided the opening score of the game on an RBI ground out to give Houston a 1-0 lead.

Houston wraps up its second weekend of Big 12 play with a series finale against Kansas at 11 a.m., Sunday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
