Hudson Weibel Leads Men’s Golf in Cabo Collegiate First Round

Senior posts 1-under 70 at Twin Dolphin on Club; Second Round tees off Monday morning
LOS CABOS, Mexico & SUGAR LAND, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Hudson Weibel posted a 1-under 70 to lead the Cougars and tie for 20th following the first day of the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club on Sunday afternoon.
Weibel, who has already won three individual tournament championships this season, drained five birdies to lead the Cougars. Starting off No. 10 on the 7,156-yard, par-71 course, the Dallas native moved under par with three birdies in his first eight holes, including back-to-back efforts at Nos. 16-17.
He started his second nine with two birdies in his first three holes.
Collins Trolio (Mississippi), Patrick McCann (Florida State), Boston Bracken (Arizona State) and Taishi Moto (Arizona) joined Weibel in the tie for 20th.
As a team, Houston finished the First Round with a score of 298 to stand in 13th.
#11 Oklahoma State held the first-day lead at 280 with #7 Arizona State (281), #9 Arkansas (281), #13 Mississippi (292), California (282), Rice (282), #17 Georgia Tech (283), #18 Tennessee (284), #36 Florida State and #20 Stanford (286) completing the Top-10 leaders.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament features 10 of the country's Top-50 programs.
Junior Chi Chun Chen was tied for 47th at 74 while junior Grant Doggett was tied for 55th at 75. Senior Kevin An and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen were ti4ed for 75th at 79.
California's Ziqin Zhou held the First-Round lead with a 64 to finish three shots ahead of Preston Stout (Oklahoma State), Raines Watson (Rice) and Arkansas teammates Thomas Curry and Gerardo Gomez.
COLIN MONTGOMERIE INVITATIONAL
In addition to the Cabo Collegiate, freshman Jayk Altic, junior Enrique Karg and senior Bryant Hiskey II will compete as individuals at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Cougars will compete against student-athletes from New Orleans, North Dakota, Weber State, UIW, Central Michigan, Missouri State, Rice, Howard, Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls, Prairie View A&M, Midland College, East Texas A&M, Texas Southern and host Houston Christian.

Following the Cabo Collegiate and the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, Houston returns home to play host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 16-17.
The Cougars will face Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
From there, Houston will play host to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club on March 23-24.
