
Weibel Moves into Lead after Argent Financial Classic Second Round

Senior tied for first at 7-under 137; Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen leads Cougars with 68 on Tuesday
CHOUDRANT, La. – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Hudson Weibel posted his second straight round in the 60s to move into a tie for the individual lead following the Second Round of the Argent Financial Classic on Monday afternoon.
A day after opening the tournament with a 68, Weibel fired a 67 Monday, thanks to five birdies and joined Southern Miss' Matthew Javier and South Alabama's Joshua Hill atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 137.
Starting the day off No. 10 on the 7,185-yard, par-72 course, Weibel wasted no time in moving into red numbers with back-to-back birdies to start the day. After a bogey at No. 12 and four straight pars, the Dallas native sank another birdie on the 561-yard, par-5 17th hole.
Weibel added more birdies at No. 2 and No. 6 and closed the day with two straight pars.
As a team, Houston tied for the low round of the day at 8-under 280 and rose five places into a tie for third with Memphis with a 36-hole total of 567.
South Alabama held the team lead at 561 to finish five shots ahead of Southern Miss and Rice. After Houston and Memphis, Rice (553), WKU (569), Jacksonville State (569), Troy (571), host Louisiana Tech (571) and Louisiana (553) rounded out the Top-10 leaders.
Playing in his first tournament as a member of the Cougars' starting lineup, sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen enjoyed the team's low round of the day with a 68. The Daxi, Taiwan, native sank a birdie at No. 14 and posted the Cougars' second eagle of the round at No. 17 on his first nine.
Chen alternated pars and birdies on his first four holes and rebounded from a double-bogey 6 at No. 7 to close his Second Round with a birdie at No. 9. He surged 30 places up the leaderboard into a tie for 19th at 3-under 141.
Junior Chi Chun Chen was tied for 40th at even-par 144 while junior Grant Doggett was tie for 48th at 145. Making his Houston debut after transferring from San Diego, senior Kevin An joined senior Bryant Hiskey – playing as an individual – in a tie for 75th at 150.
Alfons Bondesson (LSU), Yixiang Wang (Memphis), Alvaro Huidobro (UAB) and Ryley Heath (Jacksonville State) were tied for fourth at 138.
