PREVIEW: Volleyball Preps for Ranked Test Against #15 Baylor

WACO, TEXAS – The Houston Volleyball team starts a four-match road swing with a trip to Waco, Texas, for a battle against #15 Baylor at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Ferrell Center.

Houston collected its first Big 12 Conference win of the year as it defeated Texas Tech in four sets behind 10 kills from Avery Shimaitis and eight blocks from Barakat Rahmon on Saturday in Fertitta Center.
The Cougars' middle duo of Kellen Morin and Rahmon sit in fifth and ninth in the Big 12 with 1.33 and 1.27 blocks per set, respectively. Only two Big 12 schools have two players with at least 1.25 blocks pet set.
Baylor and Houston have a long history on the court, dating back to 1975 with Houston winning the first 22 meetings against the Bears.
Shimaitis enters the week having posted back-to-back matches with double-digit kills, amassing 12 at #9 TCU and 10 against Texas Tech.
Alana Torres-Rivera has been unstoppable on the court in the last five matches. In that time, she's averaged 5.28 digs per set, which leads the Big 12 since Sept. 19, including 30 against McNeese and 24 against North Alabama. The 30 against the Cowgirls are the second most by an NCAA Division I player in a three-set match this season.
Head Coach David Rehr is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. In his time with Houston, he's posted a 123-65 record, including a 73-32 record in conference play.
The Cougars' blocking effort has been a highlight for the team this season. Ranking 18^th in the nation with 2.77 blocks per set, Houston's mark currently sits as the team's highest since 1998 when the team amassed 3.03 per set. The total is the second most in the Big 12, behind only Arizona State's 2.89.
Redshirt senior Barakat Rahmon leads the Big 12 ranks 14^th in the country with a .438 hitting percentage.
