Lexi Gonzalez earns soccer’s first Big 12 weekly award in program history
HOUSTON – Following the Cougar's scoreless draw with SFA in Nacogdoches and the combined shutout against McNeese, graduate goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez was named Big 12 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Â
Gonzalez is the first Houston Soccer student-athlete to win a Big 12 Conference weekly award since joining the league in 2023. She is also the first student-athlete since Emma Clarke was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 28, 2022.
Â
The McAllen, Texas, native was the only goalkeeper to not allow a goal across the two matches on the week. Gonzalez recorded six saves on the week as the Houston defense allowed just seven total shots.
Â
The Goalkeeper of the Week award is the third of Gonzalez's career.
Â
Baylor's Tyler Isgrig and Texas Tech's Taylor Zdrojewski were named the league's Offensive Player of the Week. West Virginia's Nyema Ingleton earned Defensive Player of the Week, and BYU's Mia Goettsche was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
