Houston earns first win in the Ben Williams Era
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Soccer team dominated St. Mary's (TX), 4-0, on Sunday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The victory secured the first win for Houston in the Ben Williams Era.
Houston opened the scoring in the 11th minute as junior midfielder Ava Shannon got the long bounce to go off a free kick.
Junior forward Adelhia Ghonda quickly added to the tally as she found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and buried the goal in the 12th minute.
After a couple touches from senior forward Cameryn Maddox and freshman midfielder Nadia Ortiz, junior forward Jocelyn Chinea faced up and wrapped her shot around the defender and into the back of the net in the 35th minute to secure a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The Cougars added another goal in the 89th minute as Shannon's shot was deflected off the defender and sophomore midfielder Casey Maddox just needed one touch to put the ball away for her first career goal.
UP NEXT
The Cougars continue non-conference action as they head to Sam Houston at 7:30 p.m., Thursday from Pritchett Field in Hunstville, Texas.
