Cougars Sweep Utes, Win Fifth Straight

HOUSTON – For the first time since March 2024 the Houston Baseball team earned a Big 12 Conference series sweep with a 10-4 win over Utah on Sunday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.

Three different Cougars (27-20, 10-13 Big 12) recorded three-hit days as Houston scored 10+ runs in a league game for the first time this season and the first time since scoring 13 at Kansas on May 10, 2024.

Shortstop Tyler Cox posted a game-high three RBI on a three-hit game. The junior recorded multiple hits in all three-games of the series, hitting .800 with eight base knocks, including a triple.

Right fielder Xavier Perez ripped his eighth home run of the year, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. The sophomore's three hits pushed his series total to six hits with a team-leading six RBI against Utah.

Left fielder Brandon Bishop posted a career-high three-hit game with three-runs scored and two driven in. Both RBIs came on a go-ahead suicide squeeze in the fourth inning that resulted in a base hit after the speedy outfielder beat out the toss to first base.

Utah (17-25, 5-19 Big 12) took the lead in the fourth inning on a pair of extra-base hits, an RBI triple and fielder's choice.

Houston regained the lead in the bottom half via Bishop's two-RBI bunt single and a sacrifice fly from first baseman Cade Climie.

The Cougars' fifth inning produced four runs via Perez's home run and Cox's two-RBI triple.

UP NEXT
Houston will host Texas A&M on Tuesday for its final midweek of the season at 6:30 p.m. from Schroeder Park. The Cougars and Aggies meet in Houston for the first time since 2023 with the game streaming on ESPN+.
