Sixth Inning Rally Secures Sixth Straight Win

PHOENIX – Behind a five-run rally and Antoine Jean's 100th strikeout, the Houston Baseball team won its sixth straight game with a 6-5 win at Arizona State on Friday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Houston (28-20, 11-13 Big 12) trailed 4-1 in the sixth but scored a pair of runs on bases loaded walks before back-to-back two-out singles from shortstop Tyler Cox gave the Cougars the lead and left fielder Brandon Bishop gave Houston a two-run cushion it would end up needing late.

Jean (5) joined elite company with his 100th strikeout on the season, becoming just the second Cougar relief pitcher to surpass the 100-strikeout threshold in a single-season. The lefty joins Ryan Wagner who struck out 148 in 2003. The Montreal, Canada, native struck out the first four Sun Devils he faced to hit 100 strikeouts on the year.

Jean is Houston's 11th pitcher to strikeout 100 in a single season and the first since Robert Gasser in 2021. The left-handed pitcher finished the outing with his 13th 5+ strikeout game this season and the 27th of his career.

Arizona State (32-18, 16-9 Big 12) threatened in the ninth, scoring a run and getting the tying run 90 feet from home and the winning run in scoring position, but Jean induced a ground ball to end the game.

Cox and Bishop each produced two-hit games, accounting for four of Houston's five hits.
