Cougars open Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas on Wednesday
PROVO, Utah – The University of Houston Tennis team wrapped up regular season play with a 4-2 loss to #67 BYU on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Houston (4-15, 1-13 Big 12) dropped the doubles point when Grace Levelston and Elizabeth Tullils pounced on sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Heta Nuutinen, 6-1. BYU clinched the doubles point on court one as Kendall Kovick and Chelsea Bluestein defeated fifth-year Santa Strombacha and sophomore Iva Sepa, 6-2.
BYU (17-9, 7-6 Big 12) picked up its second point on court one as Bobo Huang blew past Strombacha, 6-1, 6-0.
On court four, Krokhotina earned her team-leading eighth win of the year by defeating Sue Yan Tan, 6-2, 6-4, to get Houston on the scoreboard.
Sepa tied the match on court two when she took a 6-4 first set and blew past Levelston, 6-1 in the second set.
BYU went back in front on court five as Madison Smith defeated junior Sophie Schouten, 6-3, 6-1.
BYU clinched the match on court three as Nuutinen fell to Kovick , 6-3, 5-7, 6-3
