PREVIEW: Tennis Opens Big 12 Championships Against (9) TCU

Sixteen-seed Cougars face nine-seed TCU at 3 p.m., Wednesday
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis team opens its Big 12 Championship run against (9) TCU at 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Wednesday's action will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats for the duration of the tournament found here.
Should the Cougars advance, they will face (8) Kansas at 4 p.m., Thursday.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Houston is 4-15 on the season with a 1-13 record in Big 12 play. Sophomore Valeriia Krokhotina leads the Cougars with eight singles wins. Juniors Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes own four doubles victories to lead Houston.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
TCU
The Horned Frogs are 12-10 on the season with a 7-6 mark in Big 12 Conference play.
Yu-Chin Tsai has 11 wins in singles action including seven on court four to lead TCU. Tomi Main owns nine wins of her own with five of them taking place on court five.
Isabel Pascual and Jade Otway have accumulated twelve doubles wins with all of them coming on court one.
Houston and TCU meet for the seventh time and the third since entering the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars dropped the last three meetings including earlier this year as TCU took a 4-0 victory in Houston (March 7, 2025).
LAST TIME OUT
In its regular season finale, Houston fell, 4-2, to BYU on Saturday in Provo, Utah.
After dropping the doubles point, the Cougars got on the board as Krokhotina defeated Sue Yan Tan, 6-2, 6-4, on court four to get things started for Houston.
Sophomore Iva Sepa evened the score for the Cougars, after taking a 6-4 first set and ending the second set in dominating fashion, 6-1. BYU would respond with two more points of their own, clinching the match to secure their seventeenth win on the season.
