Tennis Drops Match to #15 Baylor

Junior duo Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten pick up their second ranked win of the season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis team fell, 4-0 to #15 Baylor on Sunday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Baylor (12-2, 3-1 Big 12) got off to a fast start as Kennedy Gibbs and Brooke Thompson defeated sophomores Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, 6-3, on court three.
The Cougars (3-7, 0-4 Big 12) responded as juniors Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten knocked off their second ranked opponent of the season with a 7-5 upset of #89 Sierra Berry and Na Dong on court two.
The Bears clinched the doubles point on court one as #14 Cristina Tiglea and Liubov Kostenko proved their rankings with a 6-4 win over fifth-year Santa Strombacha and sophomore Elizaveta Morozova.
Baylor doubled their lead as Gibbs defeated sophomore Heta Nuutinen, 6-2, 6-4, on court four.
After getting down early in the first set, Sepa fought back to tie the opening set at five before dropping the first set 7-5 and the second 6-4, to Kostenko.
It was a back-and-forth affair throughout the match, but Dong clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Morozova on court three.
