Houston Clubs Two Grand Slams in Four Homer Win

Cougars hit four home runs; Broussard, Climie club grand slams
The Cougars hit home runs in four different innings with grand slams in the first and fourth. Junior Cade Climie hit the first long ball of the night, a grand slam on a 2-1 pitch in the first inning, for the Cougars first grand slam of the game. Senior Aaron Lugo hit a three-run home run in the third inning. Sophomore Tre Broussard hit an opposite field grand slam in the fourth inning on the first pitch he saw. Climie hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning – a solo shot. All four home runs were to left field.
Climie and Broussard are the first Cougars to hit grand slams in the same game since Jake Stewart hit two grand slams in the same game in 2008. Climie went 2 for 2 with two home runs.
Paul Schmitz (3-1) earned his team-leading third win after pitching 5.0 innings of one run work.
Houston (9-4) scored 16 runs on eight hits plating 12 of its 16 runs in two innings – a six-run first and a six-run fourth.
The Cougars have scored double digit runs in four of the last five games.
Grambling State (4-8) scored multiple runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Houston continues the series against Grambling, Saturday and Sunday, at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park. Both games will stream on ESPN+ with Saturday's game slated for a 6:30 p.m. start and Sunday set for 1 p.m.
