THE MATCHUP
- This is the first meeting between Houston and Grambling.
- Grambling athlete Payton Allen played for the Houston Cougars in 2023 and was on the fall roster entering the 2024 season. Allen did not appear for the Cougars in 2023.
- A sweep of Grambling would match the 2024 Cougars' 15-game start with an 11-4 record.
QUICK HITTERS
- The Cougars 18 runs scored at Rice on Wednesday were the second-most runs scored by either team in the Silver Glove Series and the most by Houston since 2016 when the Cougars scored 24 runs against the Owls at Constellation Field.
- Sophomore Xavier Perez became the first Cougar since Jake Stewart in 2008 to drive in eight runs in one game. The utility man scorched four hits, three doubles and a home run while driving in three runs on two swings of the bat. The eight RBI is fourth-most by any player in Division-I this season.
- Senior Antoine Jean struck out seven in 4.2 relief innings on Tuesday vs. UTRGV allowing just one hit. The lefty has thrived in his last two appearances out of the bullpen striking out 19 in 12.0 innings. Jean ranks 11th nationally in hits allowed per nine innings pitched at 2.87.
- Five Cougars have hit multiple home runs through the first 12 games while four Cougars have tallied double-digit RBI in the same span.
- Houston won its third series to open the season marking the first time since 2019 the Cougars have opened the season with series wins against non-conference teams. Houston has won the first three series of the season in back-to-back seasons after opening 2024 with series wins against Binghamton, St. John's and Baylor.
- The Cougars have won each of the last seven non-conference three-game series they have played dating back to 2023 (won 2 of three at UT Arlington, won 2 of three at Cal in 2025, won 2 of 3 against Minnesota in 2025, won 2 of 3 vs. UT Arlington in 2024, won 2 of 3 against St. John's in 2024, swept Binghamton in 2024 and swept Minnesota in 2023).
- Junior Carsten Sabathia III hit .529 on the week with multiple hits in all four games and a home run in Saturday's win at UT Arlington.
- Sophomore Richie Roman was named the #67 sophomore nationally by Perfect Game and the #5 sophomore in the Big 12 by D1Baseball.com and has started 2025 with a nation-leading six saves in as many opportunities without allowing an earned run.
- Senior outfielder/left-handed pitcher Malachi Lott returned to Houston after spending the 2024 season at Sam Houston. He is one of five athletes to return to his current institution after playing at a different D1 school in 2024. Lott accomplished the feat of hitting a home run and earning a win as a pitcher in the same game against his former club on Feb. 25. Lott became the first Cougar since 2006 when National Player of the Year Brad Lincoln hit a homer and earned a win in the same game.
- Houston is receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
LAST TIME OUT

- The Cougars bounced back with an 18-run outburst against Rice on Wednesday - the second-most runs scored by either team in Silver Glove Series history.
