Lugo, Perez Power Series Win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Aaron Lugo drove in three on a trio of hits and sophomore Xavier Perez drove in two on a pair of hits to push University of Houston Baseball to its first Big 12 Conference series win with a 7-4 win at UCF on Sunday afternoon.

Houston (13-10, 2-4 Big 12) never trailed on Sunday, and led the final three innings after scoring three in the seventh.

The Cougars scored two of the three runs in the seventh on productive outs before an RBI double from Lugo, his third hit and third RBI of the day, scored Houston's seventh run.

Chris Scinta (2-0) earned his second win of the weekend spinning a career-tying 3.2 hitless innings with a trio of strikeouts. Scinta allowed just one baserunner over 3.2 innings of scoreless relief work.

Lugo put the Cougars up 2-0 in the second inning with a solo home run to left field. The third baseman clubbed his fourth home run of the season, part of a two-home run day for Houston.

Perez hit Houston's second home run of the day in the fourth inning to put the visitors back in front 3-2.

In the sixth inning, Lugo drove in his second run on a single.

UCF (17-6, 3-3 Big 12) tied the game twice, once in the third and again in the sixth inning – scoring a pair of runs in each frame.

Senior Malachi Lott held the Knights in check with 2.0 hitless relief innings in the fourth and fifth innings.

NEXT UP
Houston returns home to start a five-game home stand beginning Tuesday night against Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m. from Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park. The Cougars then host TCU for a three-game series Friday-Sunday before a Wednesday midweek game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. All five games will stream on ESPN+.
