Sabathia hits first home run as a Cougar in loss
HOUSTON – The Houston Baseball team dropped the 2025 season opener to Minnesota 14-3 on Friday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
Minnesota (1-0) started the scoring in the first inning with a four-run inning. The Golden Gophers jumped out to a 13-0 lead after plating nine runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Houston (0-1) scored its three runs in the bottom of the sixth after junior infielder Cade Climie singled and advanced to third on a fielding error by the center fielder which scored Tre Broussard. A sacrifice fly scored the third run before junior infielder Carsten Sabathia III hit his first home run as a Cougar to left field on a 1-1 pitch in the sixth inning.
