Cougars meet Tigers for third straight season at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – For the third straight season, the #7/8 University of Houston Men's Basketball program will play host to Jackson State when it tips off at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Fertitta Center in a game presented by Coca-Cola.
The Cougars enter Wednesday's game following an 82-76 win over Florida State during the Houston Hoops Showdown inside Toyota Center in downtown Houston on Saturday night.
Against the Seminoles, senior guard Emanuel Sharp led all players with 27 points, thanks to 6-of-12 shooting from the arc. Freshman point guard Kingston Flemings totaled 21 points with five assists and a career-high eight steals to tie the second-highest mark in Houston single-game history in the last category.
Flemings became the first true NCAA Division I freshman since at least 1996-97 to reach those totals in a single game and was recognized as a member of the Big 12 Conference' Starting Five of the Week on Monday.
This season, Sharp leads the Cougars and is tied for 11th in the Big 12 with 17.6 points per game and is tied for sixth in the league with 3.1 treys per game.
Flemings joins Sharp among the league's Top-20 leaders with 15.9 points per game and is second in the Big 12 with a .609 field-goal percentage. He also dishes out a team-high 5.0 assists per contest.
Freshman center/forward Chris Cenac Jr. paces the Cougars with 8.0 rebounds per game while junior forward Joseph Tugler is the only player to rank among the Big 12's Top-Eight leaders in steals and blocked shots per game. Senior point guard Milos Uzan leads Houston and is fifth in the Big 12 with a 3.23 assist-turnover ratio.
Wednesday's game will be the first of two home games this week for the Cougars. It also marks Houston's first action in Fertitta Center since a 91-45 win over Rider on November 20. The Cougars have won their last nine home games and recorded 37 consecutive sellouts inside Fertitta Center.
